Bender Honored with Endowment

 

Dr. Kaye W. Bender, retiring Dean of the School of Nursing and Associate Vice Chancellor for Nursing, was honored on Tuesday, May 19 with a reception in the Norman Nelson Student Union.
Dean Bender continues her work in public health through a national leadership position. She is the first Executive Director of the recently formed Public Health Accreditation Board.

 

To honor Dean Bender's legacy of service to UMMC, the Dr. Kaye W. Bender Endowed Fund has been established in her name.


Dr. Bender's distinguished record has included numerous awards and service to the Institute of Medicine at the National Academy of Sciences, the American Public Health Association, the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, the American Nurses Association, the Mississippi Nurses Association, and the Mississippi Nurses Foundation. Dean Bender is the recipient of the Noble J. Swearingen Award from the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials and the Pearl McIver Public Health Nurse of the Year Award from the American Nurses Association. She was recognized as the Dean of the Year by the Mississippi Association of Student Nurses in 2004 and as the School of Nursing Administrator of the Year by the Mississippi Nurses Association in 2008.
