How many times each year are students admitted into the Traditional BSN and Accelerated BSN program?
Students are admitted into this program once each year. New students begin classes in the summer semester each year.
Is it possible for a student to have a job while enrolled in the Traditional BSN program?
Typically, classes for the undergraduate program are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. While the schedule varies from day to day, due to the intensity of the program, students are discouraged from taking on additional work responsibilities while enrolled in this program. At the beginning of each semester, students receive a course calendar outlining their schedule for the semester.
Is it possible for a student to have a job while enrolled in the Accelerated BSN program?
Due to the intensity of the program, students are discouraged from taking on additional work responsibilities while enrolled in this program. Furthermore, the Accelerated BSN program is intensive with non-traditional scheduling, as classes and clinicals often are held in the evenings and on weekends. At the beginning of each semester, students receive a course calendar outlining their schedule for the semester.
Is there a part-time option available?
No, all students admitted into this program are done so on a full-time status.
When do prerequisites need to be finished?
All prerequisites must be completed prior to beginning the nursing program.
Is on-campus housing available to students?
No, UMMC does not offer on-campus housing. However, there are many apartments, rental and housing opportunities available in the Jackson area. For a list of available housing opportunities, please click here.
Are financial aid and scholarships available?
Yes, both are available to qualified students who apply. Please visit the UMMC Office of Student Financial Services website for details on how to apply for financial aid at UMMC, http://financialaid.umc.edu/.
Does UMMC offer an LPN-RN or RN-BSN program?
No, the School of Nursing does not offer these programs. The programs that UMMC offers include the Traditional BSN, Accelerated BSN, RN-MSN, MSN, DNP and PhD programs.
Is the admission process competitive?
Yes, admission into the Traditional and Accelerated BSN programs is competitive.
Is the ACT ® required if I have a baccalaureate degree?
Yes, all applicants are required to submit all ACT ® scores, with a minimum score of 21.
What is Freshman Early Entry?
The UMMC School of Nursing Freshman Early Entry program provides an entry into the baccalaureate nursing program as a college freshman, rather than as a junior. FEE students avoid the competitive selection process for admission into the Traditional BSN program following the completion of the pre-nursing curriculum. Peace of mind comes with knowing that upon completion of the prerequisites, as long as program requirements are maintained, you will have a guaranteed spot in the BSN program.
Is the BSN program available on the Oxford campus?
The University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Nursing offers the Traditional BSN program on both the Oxford and Jackson campuses; however, the last class to attend the Traditional BSN program on the Oxford campus is the 2010 class. This program will be offered in Oxford until 2014, when the class of 2010 graduates. The Oxford campus will transition from undergraduate to graduate education from 2010 until 2012.
What kind of extracurricular activities are available in nursing school?
