Traditional BSN Program
Frequently Asked
Questions
Q. Is the admission process competitive?
A. Applicants are accepted into the program
on a competitive basis. A number of factors are considered, including
overall GPA, required prerequisite courses GPA, cumulative ACT score,
and an applicant interview.
Q. Is there a waiting list to get in?
A. The School of Nursing does not have a
waiting list to enter the program. Each year a number of students are
selected from the persons who apply. A percentage of the remaining qualified
applicants are then placed on an alternate list. Each time an admitted
applicant declines their acceptance, an alternate is offered the place.
After the first week of school, the alternate list is dropped. All remaining
applicants must reapply to be considered for the next year.
Q. How can I increase my GPA scores?
A. Taking additional courses and making
a high grade may increase GPA scores.
Q. Is the ACT required if I have a baccalaureate degree?
A. Applicants are required to submit an
ACT score, but the ACT score of an applicant with a baccalaureate degree
is not considered in the selection process.
Q. How will I know what courses I can take in nursing school?
A. An academic advisor is assigned to each
student upon admission. The undergraduate program plan of study is also
published in the University Medical Center Bulletin.

the Office of Student Affairs at (601) 984-6213.
