Baccalaureate Programs

Traditional BSN Pre-Requisite Course Requirements

The lower division is comprised of the following courses which are prerequisite for the upper division of the baccalaureate program. A minimum total of 63 semester hours is required.

NATURAL SCIENCES AND MATHEMATICS
A minimum of eight courses (27 semester hours). Science survey courses or mathematic and science courses designed for nonscience majors are not acceptable for transfer credit. Science courses taken more than 10 years ago will not be accepted for transfer credit.

Required Courses

Chemistry - (8 semester hours) Two general chemistry courses with labs in sequence.

        General Chemistry I with lab - 4 semester hours

        General Chemistry II with lab - 4 semester hours

Microbiology - (4 semester hours) One course with a laboratory

Human Anatomy and Physiology - (6 to 8 semester hours) Two courses in sequence with labs which include the study of structure and function of the human body.

College Algebra or Higher Level Math - (3 semester hours)

Introduction to Computer Use - (3 semester hours) Not a programming course.

Statistics - (3 semester hours) Includes an introduction to descriptive and inferential statistics, including measures of central tendency, variability, correlation, t tests, z tests, ANOVA, chi-square, hypothesis testing, p levels, and confidence intervals.

PSYCHOSOCIAL SCIENCES - A minimum of six courses (18 semester hours)

Required Courses

General Psychology - (3 semester hours)

Introductory Sociology - (3 semester hours)

The Family - (3 semester hours) Course about family living or marriage and the family

Human Growth and Development Throughout The Life Cycle
  1. In a senior college, Developmental Psychology, 3 semester hours, to include development from infancy through old age;
  2. In a junior college, Human Growth and Development, 3 semester hours, to include development from infancy through old age.
Nutrition - (3 semester hours)

HUMANITIES AND FINE ARTS - A minimum of six courses (18 semester hours)

Required Courses

English Composition - (6 semester hours)

Speech - (3 semester hours)

Fine Arts - (a minimum of 3 semester hours) May include Art Appreciation, Drama, and Theater.
The additional two courses in this area may be from either the humanities or fine arts.

Unacceptable Courses:

None of the required courses listed, described or recommended above may be met by the following: courses in physical training, military science, or dogmatic religion; course credit granted without college level testing.

NOTE:
Credit by exam (excluding science course with labs) is accepted if credit is posted on the official college/university transcript.

ACT scores are accepted if they are posted on the official college/university transcript.
