BSN Admission Criteria |
Admission to the undergraduate
program is based on evaluation of the following data by the Undergraduate
Admissions Committee:
1. A signed, completed application
2. An enhanced ACT score of
21 or above and a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Note: The ACT score will be used in admission consideration for
applicants who have completed a baccalaureate degree in another field
by the end of the fall semester prior to the January 15
application deadline date.
3. Completion of required
prerequisite course with a minimum of grade C in each course.
4. Satisfactory scores
on a nationally normed admission assessment specified by the School of
Nursing.

Instructions to Applicants for Admission
Applications are accepted beginning July 1 of the year prior to the desired year of enrollment. Applications are reviewed for the BSN program in the fall for early notification of acceptance (Early Decision) and again after the January 15 application deadline date for the new class that enters in May each year.
EARLY DECISION
To be considered
for Early Decision the applicant must show evidence of high scholastic
achievement and must meet the following conditions:
- The application
must be complete and in the Office of Student
Records and Registrar by November 1.
- Thirty (30) hours of pre-requisite courses must be completed of which
14 of these hours are in the pre-requisite natural sciences and mathematics
- Satisfactory scores on a nationally normed admission assessment specified
by the School of Nursing.
Applicants that are accepted in the Early Decision review will be notified
in December.
Applications that are not accepted
for Early Decision are reviewed with all applications after the January
15 application deadline date.
APPLICATION PROCESS
The deadline date for applications
to be complete and in the Office of Student Records and Registrar is January
15. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance status in March.
Individuals whose applications were complete and who have met all admission
criteria but were not admitted, will be granted the one-time option of
having their application considered in the applicant pool for the following
year. For any further consideration, the applicant must reapply.
In order for your application to be complete, we must receive:
- A signed application
form.
- A non-refundable $25 application fee made payable to the University
Medical Center.
- A completed Plan of Study form.
- A completed Personal Statement form.
- Official ACT scores - provide the date of the most recent
ACT score. Notify the Office of Student Records and Registrar
at (601)984-1080, if you had your ACT score sent directly from ACT to
UMC.
- Official transcript from EVERY college attended, including a transcript
of grades from the fall semester, sent directly from each college to
the Office of Student Records and Registrar. RECEIPTS SUBMITTED AS
PROOF THAT TRANSCRIPTS HAVE BEEN REQUESTED WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
TRANSCIPTS IN THE ORIGINAL SEALED ENVELOP CAN BE HAND DELIVERED TO THE
REGISTRAR'S OFFICE.
- A recent 2"x 2" photograph to be used for verification
of records (optional). Please write your name on the back of the photograph.
- Satisfactory scores on a nationally normed admission assessment specified
by the School of Nursing sent directly to the Registrar's Office from
the assessment center. Upon receipt of your application, the Office
of Student Records and Registrar will send further information and instructions
regarding the admission assessment.

All transcripts become the property of the University of
Mississippi Medical Center and cannot be returned to the applicant
or forwarded to another school or individual. Transcripts must be
sent directly by the school to the Office of Student Records and
Registrar.
- Facsimile documents will not be accepted.
- Transcripts must be submitted to The Office of Student Records and
Registrar at the end of each semester until all prerequisite requirements
are completed.
- Report any name, address, or phone number change to the Office of
Student Records and Registrar.
- DO NOT send application materials to the School of Nursing.
- ALL grades, including failing grades and grades on repeat courses,
are used to calculate pre-admission grade point averages.
- The applicant is responsible for notifying the Office of Student
Records and Registrar of all changes to the Plan of Study.
- Out-of-state tuition charges apply for all applicants that live outside
the State of Mississippi.
| Additional Program Information and Requirements |
Applicants accepted into the program will receive additional information
regarding health requirements, program orientation, class schedule, textbooks,
and other important information.
All students enrolled in the program must hold current certification
in Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in either the Professional Rescuer
(American Red Cross) or the Health Provider (American Heart Association)
which includes the required Adult, Child and Infant Life Support.
