Application Process

 

Applications are available online beginning July 1, one year prior to the year of admission. Applications received less than two weeks prior to the deadline cannot be assured of adequate time for notification of any missing or incomplete documents.

 

Applications are reviewed once each year for the DNP program. The final deadline for submission is May 1, and students, who submit their applications during this time, will be notified shortly thereafter of their acceptance. The program begins in August each year.

 

When applying, all parts to the application, including any supplemental materials, must be received by the deadline.

  1. A complete application;
  2. A nonrefundable $25 application fee paid by credit card or by check, made payable to the University of Mississippi Medical Center;
  3. Official transcripts from all colleges attended, submitted to the Office of Student Records and Registrar;
  4. A graduate GPA of 3.2 if a master’s degree has been earned;
  5. Acceptable score on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE ®);
  6. A BSN and a master's degree in nursing or related field. (Please note: In the absence of BSN degree, a master's degree in nursing is required.);
  7. Evidence of an unrestricted/unencumbered nursing license as a registered nurse in the United States or one of its territories and eligibility for licensure in the state of Mississippi;
  8. One year of professional nursing experience preferred but not required;
  9. Completion of at least one research course and one statistics course at the undergraduate or graduate level;
  10. Informal personal statement submitted with application;
  11. Letters of reference from three individuals.  Letters of reference must be sent directly to the Registrar’s office;
  12. Curriculum vitae or professional résumé.

  1. All transcripts become the property of the University of Mississippi Medical Center and cannot be returned to the applicant or forwarded to another school or individual. Transcripts must be sent directly by the school to the Office of Student Records and Registrar.

  2. Facsimile documents will not be accepted.

  3. Transcripts must be submitted to the Office of Student Records and Registrar at the end of each semester until all prerequisite requirements are completed.

  4. Report any name, address, or phone number change to the Office of Student Records and Registrar.

  5. Do not send application materials to the School of Nursing.

  6. All grades, including failing grades and grades on repeat courses, are used to calculate preadmission grade point averages.

  7. The applicant is responsible for notifying the Office of Student Records and Registrar of all changes to the plan of study.

  8. Out-of-state tuition charges apply for all applicants that live outside the state of Mississippi. For qualified applicants, out-of-state tuition scholarships are available on a competitive basis.
