As the first baccalaureate program in the state, the University of Mississippi School of Nursing was founded in 1948. Since that time, its more than 2,000 graduates have cared for the people of Mississippi in hospitals, clinics, and at home. We also initiated the state's first master's program in nursing in 1970, the state's first collaborative doctoral program in 1998, and the state's first accelerated second degree baccalaureate program offered by a public university in 2006.
Our educational programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), to the year 2013!
Today, we continue to create new and innovative ways to provide care to Mississippians. Our nurse-run primary care clinic was the first in the state. The clinic provides real-life learning experiences for all our students, as well as a site for faculty practice. The school also developed a school-based clinic in a local elementary school. In addition to teaching and faculty practice, faculty continue to research insights and solutions to health care problems. Through partnerships with the faith community, the public health department, and the School of Dentistry, the School of Nursing provides care in underserved areas through a mobile clinic van. We also have a unique relationship with the hospitals and clinics on the academic health science center campus, affording students and faculty clinical experiences unlike any other setting in the state. As a marker of our success, faculty have been invited to present their findings at research conferences all over the world.
I am confident that you will find the academic opportunities at the University of Mississippi School of Nursing unmatched in scope, range, and excellence.
