Associate Dean Selected For Leadership Program

Dr. Kim Hoover, associate dean for research and evaluation and professor of nursing, has been selected to participate in a prestigious, advanced leadership program for nurses in executive roles.

Dr. Kim HooverThe Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellows Program is a national program to inspire nurses in executive roles to continue to achieve the highest levels of leadership in the health care system.

Dr. Kaye Bender, associate vice chancellor for nursing and dean of the School of Nursing, said the selection reflects Hoover’s quality and that of the institution.

“It is an honor for our campus to have a nurse selected for this program,” Bender said. “Dr. Hoover brings a vast knowledge of nursing workforce analysis and a strong dedication to linking workforce issues with patient safety to this program. Both of these attributes will allow her to use this valuable opportunity to further enrich the Medical Center.”

Hoover received the BSN from the University of Louisiana, Monroe, in 1985. She earned the MSN in 1994 and the PhD in clinical health sciences in 2000 at the Medical Center. She joined the UMC faculty in 2003 as an associate dean for nursing.

“While practicing nursing in a hospital gave me the opportunity to improve individual patients’ health, being active as a nursing educator, administrator and leader in the state means having a greater impact,” she said.

“The program is designed to build leadership skills, enabling fellows to increase their influence in health care,” she said. “I expect intensive leadership assessments to identify and maximize strengths with development and mentoring to build areas of weakness.”

The program lasts three years, but Hoover says it is time well spent.

“At the end of the fellowship, I hope to have improved my leadership skills, added to my professional network and expanded my sphere of influence at the local and national level.”
